Saudi Aramco plans to launch nearly 10 solar projects

2022-11-28

A few days ago, Saudi Aramco announced that it plans to launch nearly 10 solar projects in Saudi Arabia and has already partnered with a U.S. thin-film solar company.

As early as 2013, Saudi Arabia planned to install 41GW of solar power installations in the next 20 years, equivalent to the power generation of 41 nuclear power plants, in addition to Saudi Arabia, in the southwest of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, a 200MW largest solar power plant in the Middle East is also under construction. Thin-film solar energy has become the first choice for the new energy transition in Middle Eastern countries.

As typical representatives of the oil state, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other countries have turned to solar energy development, which inevitably sounds a bit revolutionary. The Saudi royal family revealed to the media their bitterness: Saudi Arabia consumes at least 1 million barrels of oil per day by burning oil to generate electricity, and if such an energy structure is not changed, electricity consumption will become a "beast" that will devour all Saudi Arabia's oil production capacity, and it is expected that by 2030, Saudi Arabia will even become a net importer of oil.
